I'm with Stephen here....I make sure I clean CALEB7 at least weekly, and often twice a week if we've used it some.......

Be interesting how the vinyl works out!!!

So far, not great :-) I'll know more tomorrow night after attempting the guard again with 2 people. I think I have worked out what I need to do. I need to prestretch the vinyl about 12-15% and lay it on the obvious way, then when heated, the overhang for the side of the arch should shrink back to the original shape which will hopefully make it a wrinkle free finish.

I'd always intended to do something with the colour and the vinyl is really an experiment. If it turns out I can't apply the vinyl, I'll take all the fibreglass off and get the pros to wrap those pieces and leave myself with the flat bits :-)

And if that doesn't work, I'll paint it with a brush and some exterior house acrylic :-)

Had an extra pair of hands tonight and have figured out how to do the compound curve... Unfortunately didn't cut the damn piece wide enough so had to abort, and also found out that a raw primer surface is nothing like smooth enough to apply to - so next time I should be fine...

After that it's a bunch of flat surfaces, then the scuttle, bonnet and then nosecone.

It begins...

Image

It's kinda similar to someone elses colour, but I've been as big a fan of bright orange as I am now of actually being seen on the road by other drivers so it had to be something bright. It's actually a matte finish and it's not quite as orange as it looks in the photo. I still have this nagging doubt that it may not actually hold up well under real use, but oh well - it's relatively cheap (about $400 for enough vinyl to cover the car) and I am doing all the panel repairs and prep as I go (metal filler on gouges in the panels and bog in chips on the glass) so if it doesn't work out I'll rip it all off and tell someone to paint it instead :-)

It's fun trying to make it work and you seriously cannot have too many hands to do this sort of thing!!!

Looking good, will be ordering some for my car in the next week or so, so does 6metres look to be enough or should I get a few more?

6 metres would be enough if you made no stuffups... So far I think I wasted the first 2.5 metres learning about the quirks. I should _NOT_ have started on the rear arches. The real panel though was easy - start there. I plan to now to the sides and the bonnet, then if I feel really confident try the glass bits - or else do all the surface prep and then drop them at a pro vinyl installer and just say "Cover these bits please"

Cheers for the details, did you just get a plain colour? or is it a special Matt finish?

It is a matte finish..

http://solutions.3mnz.co.nz/wps/portal/ ... oductInfo/

It's the 1080-M54 matte orange from the colours and styles guide... It looks much more orange in photos than it does in real life... The gloss looks more orange but it apparently much much harder to apply without blemishing the surface.

It's ok Evan, we'll still be able to tell them apart... yours is the fast one :-)
