Re: Anyone know the history of this Steelbros S4?

I don't know the history but it isn't as tidy as it appears in the photos. I went to look at it as I was thinking about exiting my black S4 for something a bit more practical. There's nothing major wrong but my expectations were high based on those photos. It has a few nicks and scrapes as well as a...

Re: WTB: To the track and back

Nice Caterham but you might as well spend half as much on a similar spec Fraser. The car will be just as good and you'll still have a pile of cash....

Re: Lotus 7 (genuine) on TM

As long as they read the questions and have half a brain, they'll be alright. Interestingly, Trademe have no interest in doing anything about fraudulent listings....

Re: Electrical issues Series 4

Well done! I think you said you are in Dunedin? We were down there for a few days earlier in the year. There are so many great places to drive - I'm green with envy...

Re: Electrical issues Series 4

I reckon the Burton kit is ugly, expensive and unnecessary. The Lotus' waterpump issues stem from two things - being left to sit too long and the seal getting torn as a result, and people running their alternator belt too tight. Interestingly the Europas, with cam-driven alternators, didn't have any...

Re: Auckland Chevron Owners

Sweet! The position of the bulge (oo-err!) and the exhaust exit look perfect for a Rotary to me! You know you want to..... Hmmm yes have considered a rotary and that would be mint but are they not a lot of work with seals and needing rebuilds all the time? A properly built rotary is super reliable....

Re: Wiper blade for Steelbro Super 7

If it's just the rubber blades you're looking for, you should just be able to go into Repco or Supercheap and get a new one that you can trim down. My entire assemblies were missing (bloody race car!) so I ordered a new stainless set-up from Fraser Cars.

Re: Who is the best Steelbro Super 7 guru?

I believe the absolute guru of everything Steelbro Lotus to be Harry Hawkins of ClubLotus NZ. I've never met him but he sent me a few emails when I first got my current car. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to answer emails now - at least to the address I have. I can give you his details offline if you...

Re: Electrical issues Series 4

I used a S4 as a daily-driver to commute into the Auckland CBD for years, no matter what the weather. I wore a suit and never got (very) wet. The main problem with older Lotuses in general is deferred maintenance from previous owners. The Escort or Cortina never had reputations as unreliable cars, y...

Re: Electrical issues Series 4

So your electric pump is in the front tee'd off the fuel line to the mechanical? It wont' like that, most pumps like to push not pull. I'd blank the mechanical pump with a plate from Burtons and put an electric pump under the gas tank at the back. Remember to get a low-pressure pump (3-4 psi) Don't ...
