Skinny Tyres

Post by Rookie » Tue Oct 28, 2014 10:08 pm

Has anyone gone to a budget skinny tyre on a 7? I am contemplating it for my "wets" as you are never fast in the wet and having a car that moves around on the track a bunch is fun.
I'm thinking of going from a 205/60 r13 to a 175/70 (or 60) r13, and I was wondering if anyone has some experience to chime in before a spend some money.

I have Kumho 175 60 R14 and I recommend them! They are about $90 - 100 each. Having them on the front and my big 205 Toyos on the back made it handle really well. Ive had them all round for about a year now which makes for a better ride but also a lot more sideways stuff just happens.

I've got 185/70/13s on my 1974 Seven, they were a wide, low profile tyre back then ;)

There's a link here http://carleasingmadesimple.com/busines ... tyre-size/ to standard Caterham sizes, 185 seems to be the rear width for everything until you get to 200bhp and over so I wouldn't think 175s are that skinny

By way of comparison, the new Caterham Seven 160 has 155/65/14 tyres - that's more like skinny :!:

Well compared to the 205/60 r13s I am running at the moment 175 is quite skinny hahaha

But thanks for the input, I will go shopping!
