Batteries - what is everyone using?

Post by nz_climber » Sun Jun 26, 2016 3:43 pm

Just wanting to know what type / brand / size batteries everyone is running?

I need to replace my Sealed Lead Acid battery (Motobatt MTBX24U) as it is no longer sealed after 5 years laying on its side. And has now gone completely dead!

I had no problems (until now) with the battery gave me great service and would easily start the car after sitting even for a few months.

I tempted to get the same - but stand it upright this time. but was wondering which brands etc people are getting good results from? Anyone tried any of the super light weight Lithium batteries? Is anything better, lighter or cheaper out there?

Look forward to the feedback

Cheers
Aaron

Have you got one in the new car? What size did you go for?

I've just got a dog standard sealed lead acid from Jaycar, has worked a treat for years and so cheap, but it has gone bad now too. Was looking at those lithium ones, bloody light but a little wary if they are completely safe, when lithium goes bad it goes really bad.

Aaron, I am using the same one as you had, the mtbx24u. I used the same one in my last car as well. Hard to beat for the price...I mounted my ones upright...

I had one of the same Motobatts and it broke... Looked like an intermittent post connection... Sometimes ok and sometimes 0V... Put back the original small wet battery and it's been fine since. I would probably try another Motobatt based on the experience of others and the significantly better cranking I had when it did work.

I've had two Motobatt batteries go bad - MBTX16U
one was sitting upright, other on its side. Seems as though one cell goes bad and the the battery won't charge.
They're great when they work but…

I've now got a Vision HP12-116W - seems to have similar cranking to the Motobatt and has lasted 3 times longer (so far). I've got it lying on its side.
