Silvo's Tui

Post by silvo » Wed Jun 10, 2015 8:22 pm

Hi - a car that's been on this forum before! - 1989 Tui built by Tui cars of Auckland - builder JD Mannion - would love to hear if anyone knows of this company or builder? Very impressed with the workmanship. Was all green when I got it but have added a stripe on the nose/bonnet - go faster stripe of course. Runs a 1600 xflow - I suspect a modified cam is the tick-over is quite lumpy, difficult to know what cam is in without stripping the engine down - I suppose I could use a dial gauge on the push-rods to measure the lift etc. Has a single 40 dellorto side draught currently which I'm not a fan off - it runs rich and chooses random idle speeds with coughing and spluttering thrown in! - Looking to make a manifold to run a set of bike carbs (? gsxr etc) as I've read favourable things about these on the web. Great fun to use in the usually dry Hawkes Bay weather - get to use it 2 or 3 days a week to commute from Napier to Hastings - blows the cobwebbs out of the working day! Has a capri 2000 box and escort rear axle with the usual triumph front hubs - all nice and simple though getting parts can be a challenge these days !- cheers Neil
